Banque de L'Indo Chine, 10 Dollars = 10 Piastres, proof, Shanghai, February 1901, red and black, alleogrical figures at lower border, elephants at left and right, reverse orange, Bank title and denomination in Chinese text,(Pick S440Bp), PMG 65EPQ Gem Uncirculated. An extremely rare issue in any shape or form, this note is the only note graded by PMG at the time of writing. With vivid colours and sharp corners this note is in fabulour condition given it is over 120 years old! The Banque de L'Indo Chine was founded in 1875 to help the French Government to administer their colonial properties in South East Asia. It began its China operations in 1889 with the opening of the Canton Shameen branch followed by the Shanghai branch in 1899. As collectors of Chinese Foreign Bank banknotes are well aware both issued or specimen notes from this bank are extremely rare..
