Thailand - Rama VI (1910-1925), Pair of Tin Uniface Trials 10 Satang BE2456 (1913) (Brussels mint) (Tin, 28.88 and 28.86 gr, 33 mm, 5.5 mm thick) cfr. KM Y 37. PCGS SP62 and SP63

The economic recession of the 1920s forced the Siamese government to close the Mint and the circulation coins had to be manufactured abroad.
The first order was the result of negotiations between Josse Allard and Prince Sharoon, the minister plenipotentiary of Siam in Paris. This diplomat would also be awarded a Belgian decoration in 1911 for his mediation in favor of the Brussels Mint.
Since the Brussels Mint was not equipped to make the hard nickel coin plates, they were ordered from specialized companies. Before the First World War, the nickel plates were supplied by the German Basse & Selve from Altena and by Arthur Krupp Metallwerke from the Austrian village of Berndorf. After the war, the Mint no longer obtained supplies from these companies, but called on an unnamed French company and, from 1926, on Usines à Cuivre et à Zinc in Liège in Belgium.
The manufacture of these coins was supervised until 1926 by F. Verleyen, Josse Allard's deputy, who also paid the verification costs and the contributions for the State and the personnel. Alphonse Michaux took care of the modeling and engraving work.
The director of the mint reported the bronze and nickel coinage (1, 5 and 10 satang coins) executed at foreign mints during 1920 was as follows; Bronze, 189.561 ticals executed in England, 100.000 ticals in Belgium and 68.250 ticals in United States of America; Nickel, 113.799 ticals in England, 499.934 ticals in Belgium and 110 ticals in Japan.

An exceptional rarity in pristine condition, possibly unique.

Acquired from the Royal Mint of Belgium.

These pieces were meant to be transferred to the Royal Mint Museum, or the Royal Archives, when the Brussels Mint closed in 2018. They were found appart recently, and sold by the Federal Public Service Finance, on behalf of the Royal Mint of Belgium. Brussels Mint pedigree stated on label by PCGS.
