ATTICA. Athens. AR Fourree Tetradrachm (16.95 gms), ca. 5th-4th Centuries B.C. NGC AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5.
cf. HGC-4, 1597 (for prototype); cf. Kroll-8 (same). Near East or Egyptian contemporary imitation. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. An imitative Tetradrachm that rather faithfully renders the copied Athenian Tetradrachm, this piece provides very little evidence of circulation, and handsome problem free surfaces.
