AUGUSTUS, 27 B.C.- A.D. 14. Syria, Seleucis and Pieria, Antioch. AR Tetradrachm (15.05 gms), dated year 30 of the Actian Era and Cos. XIII (2/1 B.C.). NGC VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5.
RPC-4156; McAlee-185; Prieur-55. Obverse: Laureate head right; Reverse: Fortuna seated right on rocky outcrop, holding palm frond; below, half-length figure of the river-god Orontes swimming right; Λ (consular date) above; in right field, monogram and IΓ (Caesarean Era date) above monogram. Though displaying signs of usage in commerce, the present example provides strong strike quality and handsome details. The surfaces are steely gray, and though lightly porous, this example retains an attractive charm.
