VESPASIAN, A.D. 69-79. AV Aureus (7.14 gms), Uncertain Mint in Spain, possibly Tarraco, A.D. 70. NGC VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 2/5. Ex-Jewelry, Edge Filing.
RIC-1311; Calico-607. Obverse: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head right; Reverse: COS ITER TR POT, Pax seated left on throne, holding branch and cornucopia. This example provides good details and remains a relatively charming example of Roman gold. Some circulation is evidenced on the high elements of the design, and there are visible problems in the way of filing and evidence of use in jewelry. Even still, this example remains a presentable piece of Roman gold, and as such, should be hotly contested.

Estimate: $2000 - $4000
