FRANCE. Napoleon I/Campaign on the Marne and Aube Bronze Medal, 1814. Paris Mint. CHOICE UNCIRCULATED.
Bramsen-1348; Julius-2837; Zeitz-135. By Andrieu & Brenet for Denon. Diameter: 40mm; Weight: 38.66 gms. Obverse: Laureate head right; Reverse: Eagle standing left upon thunderbolt; six-pointed star above; two fish swimming in opposite directions (Pisces) to left; to right, Victory flying left with wreath. Edge: Plain. Rich red-brown surfaces, with a somewhat matte nature on the obverse and a more reflective brilliance on the reverse. An interesting design that channels the eagle commonly seen on the coinage of Ptolemaic Egypt and foreshadowing that of the Saint-Gaudens Eagle ($10 gold piece).

Estimate: $150 - $300
