Diameter: 28mm. Obverse: Mantled bust right, wearing miter; Reverse: The Archbishop's body lying in state within ornamented bed; pyre to left and right. Edge: Plain. A fairly SCARCE and unusual issue, this small medal, offering rich red-brown surfaces and glistening brilliance, honored Archbishop Darboy, the Archbishop of Paris, who was executed during the Commune of Paris--a revolutionary government set up to control the city following the collapse of Napoleon III's empire and the emergence of the Third Republic of France.
