van Loon-III, 87/81. Diameter: 47mm. Obverse: Capped and draped jugate busts right; Reverse: Legend in eight lines; all within decorative floral bordering. Edge: VIOLENTA MORTE DELETI HAGÆ COMITIS 20 AVG A'O 1672. Quite deeply and iridescently toned, this Mint State example also offers some brilliance in the fields and great originality. It commemorates the de Wit brothers, who were held accountable for the disastrous year of 1672 by rioters in the Hague, where they were ultimately hanged.
