Obverse: Bust of Nobel left; Reverse: INVENTAS VITAM IUVAT EXCOLUISSE PER ARTES (and they who bettered life on earth by their newly found mastery), basin and serpent-entwined staff of Aeculapius; wreath behind. Edge: Plain. On account of the plain edge, this example emanates from the earliest series of nominating committee medals--namely from the award's inception until just over a decade later in 1913. Attractively toned and with just the slightest degree of rub and scattered marks.
