In 324, the second civil war broke out between Licinius and Constantine. As the war went against Licinius, he declared Martinian co-emperor. Although the soldiers of the civil war were few in number, Constantine was the winner. Licinius was forced to retreat. He conditioned Martinian at Lampsacus to stop Constantine's advance into Anatolia. However, Martinian could not prevent Constantine. Licinius was pressed against Nicomedia. Martinian was exiled to Cappadocia. Constantine killed Licinius and Martinian in case they could revolt.
During his brief reign, the Martinian minted only two mints and a limited number of coins.
