PB Byzantine Lead Seal of Sergios, Notarios (9th century AD).
Obv: Cruciform invocative monogram (type V). In the quarters: τῷ σῷ δούλῳ. Wreath border.
Rev: Inscription of three lines; a cross between tendrils above and below: Σεργίῳ νοταρίῳ.
Translation: Theotokos, help your servant Sergios notarios.
There is only one parallel specimen in: Nomos, Obolos 22, 778. Cf. PBE, Sergios 102: Sergios notarios was the addressee of a letter from Theodore the Stoudite written in 816/817; he rejected iconoclasm and cultivated contacts with the champions of Orthodoxy (Theod. Stud., Ep. 185, p. 307).
