LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 330-290 BC. Nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 7.88 g, 6 h), struck under the magistrates Euph... and Ly... Head of Demeter to right, wearing a grain wreath, pendant earring and necklace; below chin, partially seen here, EY. Rev. META Ear of barley with leaf to right; above leaf, star of sixteen rays; below to left, ΛΥ; third grain on left side slightly off line. HGC 1, 1063. HN III 1592. Johnston Class C, 8.2 (same dies). SNG ANS 502 (same dies). SNG Munich 1003. Struck on good silver; overstruck (or most probably restruck), with remains of the undertype seen at 10-11h of the reverse. Die-rust on the obverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
