TROAS. Ophrynion. Circa 350-300 BC. (Bronze, 10 mm, 0.99 g, 11 h). Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. [O]ΦΡΥ Hector, naked but for a Phrygian helmet, advancing left, holding spear and shield. BMC 8-9. Rhousopoulos 3491. SNG Copenhagen 460. Attractive earthen toning. Obverse slighly off centre, otherwise, very fine.
On coins of this type Hector is usually depicted crouching to left. Only very few surviving coins depict him upright and advancing in hoplite fashion (cf. Giessener Münzhandlung 170, 13 October 2008, 1410; sold for € 300).
In antiquity, Ophrynion was considered to be the site of the tomb of Hector.
