Moneyers of the Roman Republic generally used the designs on their coins to advertise some important aspect of their families in order to help further their careers. The purpose of the types used for the dies of this coin, however, are somewhat unclear. The obverse depicts Ceres, while the reverse shows a team of yoked oxen, both obvious references to agriculture. Why the moneyer chose these specific types, though. which were certainly understood at the time, are no longer obvious.
