Constantine I, 307/310-337. Argenteus (Billon, 18 mm, 3.08 g, 5 h), Treveri, 318-319. IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG Draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to left, wearing high-crested helmet and holding spear across right shoulder. Rev. VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP / PTR Two Victories standing facing one another, holding shield inscribed VOT/PR on altar. RIC VII 208A. RSC 643. Nicely toned. Good very fine.
From the Trausnitz collection.
The late period argentei of Constantine and his imperial colleague Licinius are not struck in good silver but rather in billon. Although not rare they are scarce. The above example is quite nice, with an attractive (although a bit softly struck) portrait and a sharply struck and well centered reverse.
