Alexius I Comnenus, 1081-1118. Aspron Trachy (Silver, 27 mm, 2.98 g, 6 h), Pre-reform coinage, Thessalonica, 1081-1092. Bust of Christ, nimbate, facing, raising right hand in benediction and holding Gospels in left. Rev. St. Demetrius, nimbate and wearing military attire, on left, holding sheathed sword in left hand and presenting patriarchal cross to Alexius, crowned, on right, standing facing. DOC IV 5a. SB 1905. Scratches and flatly struck on the obverse. Very fine.
