KINGS OF COMMAGENE. Antiochos IV Epiphanes, 38-72. Tetrachalkon (Bronze, 17 mm, 4.41 g, 12 h). BAΣI•MEΓAΣ [ANTIOXOΣ•EΠΙ] Diademed and draped bust of Antiochos IV to right. Rev. KOMMAΓHNΩN Capricorn to right; star above, anchor below; all within wreath. Kovacs 256. RPC I 3855. Struck on a somewhat short flan and with light deposits, otherwise, nearly very fine.
From the collection of an Armenian businessman, acquired before 2021, ex Peus 418, 2 November 2016, 975.
This curious piece was struck with the regular dies of a tetrachalkon, but on a much smaller flan. We may be dealing with a minting error or perhaps an unrecorded denomination for this issue.
