LOWER DANUBE. Uncertain tribe. Circa 2nd century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 16.86 g, 10 h), imitating Philip III of Macedon. Celticized head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. [BA]ΣIΛE[ΩΣ] / ΦIΛIΠΠΟΥ Celticized Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; below throne, monogram; to left, two monograms. Dembski -. Flesche 740 var. (differing monograms). Lanz -. OTA 579/6. Lightly toned and of lovely style. Minor areas of weakness, otherwise, very fine.
