INDIA, Kushan Empire. Kanishka I, circa 127/8-152. Tetradrachm (Bronze, 24 mm, 16.65 g, 11 h), main mint in Kapisha (Begram?). ÞAO ΚANηρKI ('King Kanishka' in Bactrian) Kanishka I standing front, head to left, sacrificing with his right hand over altar and holding trident in his left. Rev. ΟΑΔΟ ('OADO' in Bactrian) Oado running to left, holding cloak above his head with both hands; in field to left, tamgha. ANS Kushan 579.Göbl, Donum Burns, 167ff. Attractive earthen highlights. The reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, very fine.

It is commonly assumed that the depiction of Oado, the Kushan god of the blowing winds, on Kushan coins influenced the rendering of the Japanese wind deity Fujin.
