HUNNIC TRIBES, Alchon Huns. Uncertain king. Drachm (Silver, 29 mm, 3.00 g, 3 h), Shao Alkhano Type, Gandhara, 5th century. 'šauo alxanno' (in Bactrian) Bust with an elongated skull to right, wearing diadem with two ribbons and a crescent at the front, earrings, pearl necklace and flywhisks on both shoulders; below, winged ornament; in field to left, Alkhan tamgha; in field to right, rosette. Rev. Fire altar flanked by attendants. Göbl 70. Pfisterer, Typ 70. Vondrovec Type 70. An impressive example with a bold portrait. Good very fine.
