LOWER DANUBE. Imitations of Maroneia. Late 2nd-1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 15.72 g, 12 h). Celticized head of Dionysos to right, wearing tainia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. ΣΩTHPH - ΛΣΘΤΛΣΟ / ΛZΩΠΛΟ Celticized Dionysos standing front, head to left, holding grapes in his right hand and narthex stalks in his left; in inner left field, monogram. Dembski -. Flesche -. Lanz -. Lukanc pl. 170, 1934 (same dies). OTA -. Extremely rare and unusually well preserved. Light deposits and with a few faint scratches on the reverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
