Macrinus, 217-218. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.40 g, 12 h), Rome, spring-summer 217. IMP C M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AVG Laureate and cuirassed bust of Macrinus with short beard to right. Rev. SALVS PVBLICA Securitas seated left, holding scepter in her right hand and leaning her head on her left; to left, lighted altar. Cf. BMC 115, Clay Issue 1, Cohen 116 and RIC 86 (for prototype with seated Salus). A very unusual and interesting minting error on the reverse. Slightly crystallized, otherwise, very fine.
The reverse of this coin shows Securitas in her traditional pose, but the legend clearly names Salus in error.
