SICILY. Gela. Circa 440-430 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.10 g, 10 h). Charioteer driving quadriga moving slowly to the right; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses; in exergue, branch. Rev. CΕΛΑΣ Forepart of the river-god Gelas, in the form of a man-headed bull, to right. Jenkins, Gela, Group V, 379 (O77/R156). HGC 2, 345. SNG ANS 72 (same dies). Lightly toned. Struck from a somewhat worn obverse die and the reverse quite rough, otherwise, very fine.
