ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 148-90/80 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 34 mm, 16.54 g, 11 h), struck under Aesillas (?), quaestor, circa 95-70 BC. Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing tainia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. HΡAKΛEOΥΣ - ΣΩTHΡOΣ / ΘAΣIΩN Herakles standing front, head to left, holding club in his right hand and with lion's skin draped over his left arm and quiver over his shoulder; in inner left field, monogram of Aesillas (?). It has been suggested that the monogram on the reverse of this very rare issue is that of the Roman quaestor, Aesillas.
