Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico, Tesoreria Nacional, 25 pesos, 4-5-1813, serial 34. About 8-1/4" x 12-3/4" SCWPM-unlisted. A large, uniface fiscal document numbered 34 promising to pay Don Francisco Puig y Gibert the sum of 25 pesos in provisional money one year from the date of May 4, 1813, with interest at an annual rate of 6% (basically a 19th-century promissory note or certificate of deposit), signed by Treasurer Juan Patino and Accountant Jose Bacener and countersigned (V.o B.o) by [Alejandro] Ramirez. Rare and important as effectively the first currency of Puerto Rico and issued while Ferdinand VII was still king of Spain. Problem-free About Uncirculated with four spindle holes along left margin and rough edges as made.
($300-450)
