Ireland, Edward IV, second reign (1471-83), silver Halfgroat of Twopence, Issues of the Ungoverned Mints (c.1470-77), Limerick Mint, facing crowned bust within double tressure of nine arcs, rosettes by neck, trefoil on each cusp, L on breast, beaded circles and legend surrounding, EDWARD DI GRA REX AnGL' Z FRA, rev. long cross pattee, tri-pellets in each inner angle, cinquefoils in two opposite quadrants, beaded circles and double concentric legends surrounding, CIVI TAS LIMI RICI inner legend, +POS VI DEVm A DIVTOR E mEVm outer legend, all S's inverted, 0.87g (S.6382). Some discolouration and light porosity from time in acidic soil, otherwise near very fine, an extremely rare denomination for this mint.

The Latin abbreviated legend translates as "Edward, by the grace of God, King of England and France," and on the reverse "I have made God my helper," a Psalm from the Bible along with "City of Limerick" on the inner circle.

The rarity of this type is such that, at the July 1824 Dimsdale sale, a Limerick Halfgroat of Edward IV was offered as its own lot and described as 'of extreme rarity', whereas other valuable coins, such as Charles I Unites, were lotted as groups.
