Charles II (1660-1685), Halfcrowns, 1670 VICESIMO SECVNDO (3), third laureate and draped bust right, rev. reading MAG, crowned shields cruciform, eight strings to harp, lettered edge upwards, 14.72g, 6h, toned, a pleasing fine; another, similar, rev. eight strings to harp, lettered edge upwards, 14.31g, 6h, good / fair; lastly, 13.06g, 7h (Bull 453; ESC 467; Spink 3365), heavily pitted, surfaces reminiscent of Association shipwreck salvage, scarcely legible, poor (3).
Bull 454 notes an error 'E over R in ET', but does not clarify whether this is in reference to the reverse legend or the edge lettering. It is difficult to be certain, but we possibly have an example of the latter here. With little to go on it is impossible to judge the rarity of such an error, and Bull leaves it at R?.
Estimate: £140.00 - £200.00
