James II (1685-1688), Halfcrowns (4), 1685 PRIMO, first laureate and draped bust left, rev. crowned shields cruciform, six strings to harp, lettered edge downwards, 14.17g, 6h (Bull 748; ESC 493); another, 1686 SECVNDO, rev. seven strings to harp, 14.53g, 6h (Bull 749; ESC 494), heavy die flaw in obverse field, otherwise rubbed, good; also, 1686 SECVNDO, V over S in IACOBVS, similar, rev. six strings to harp, lettered edge downwards, 14.13g, 6h (Bull - [cf. 752 - R3]; ESC - [cf. 496A]), about good, but the die sinker's error extremely clear, unrecorded with the edge date SECVNDO, presumably extremely rare thus; lastly, 1686 TERTIO, rev. seven strings to harp, 14.34g, 7h (Bull 751, ESC 496; Spink 3408), an evident field find, pitted and porous, with scattered surface marks, otherwise fair to almost fine (4).
Listed previously as 'presumably an extremely rare type, possibly R5 or rarer and unrecorded as such by either ESC or Bull
Estimate: £140.00 - £200.00
