William III (1694-1702), Great Recoinage, London, Crown, 1696 OCTAVO, no stops in legend, G over D in GRA, first laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, round breast plate, rev. crowned shields cruciform, seven strings to harp, nine billets, lettered edge upwards, 30.21g, 6h (Bull 996 [R3]; ESC 89C; Spink 3470), rubbed and pecked in fields, lightly wiped and peripherally toned, a bolder fine, the variety clear and very rare.
