William III (1694-1702), Great Recoinage, Exeter, Halfcrowns (4), 1696 E OCTAVO, first laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, E below, rev. large crowned shields cruciform, early harp with six strings, nine billets, lettered edge downwards, 14.36g, 6h; another, lettered edge downwards, 14.99g, 5h (Bull 1070 [R2]; ESC 526; Spink 3484), both with adjustment marks on reverse, the first lightly polished, the second toned, otherwise both fair to about fine, rare; others, 1697 E NONO (4), similar, rev. large crowned shields cruciform, late harp with five strings, six billets, lettered edge downwards, 14.55g, 6h; another, lettered edge upwards, 14.48g, 6h; edge downwards, 14.36g, 6h; another, edge downwards, 14.48g, 6h (Bull 1074; ESC 547; Spink 3490), some partial striking softness, otherwise cleaned, fair to fine; the second toned, mediocre to good; the third with collector's ticket stating inverted A on edge, but this is not convincing, with scratch on obverse, good, the fourth with dark colour, scratch on obverse, good (6).
