William III (1694-1702), Great Recoinage, London, Shillings, 1697 (5), third laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right (3), rev. crowned shields cruciform, five strings to harp, seven billets, 5.86g, 6h, lightly rubbed, flecked and flawed, darkly patinated, very fine; another, similar, rev. six strings to harp, 5.42g, 6h, adjustment marks to Lion, flecked and artificially darkly toned, a bolder fine; and, rev. seven strings to harp, 5.71g, 6h (Bull 1128; ESC 1102; Spink 3505), removed from a mount with edges shaved, rubbed and flecked, good; additionally, third bust variety (2), hair closer to legend, rev. six strings to harp, 5.74g, 6h, gouges through reverse shields and scratches on portrait, otherwise toned, fair; another, six strings to harp, six billets, 5.42g, 6h (Bull 1132; ESC 1108; Spink 3511), corroded, and evidently a field find, heavy adjustment marks, poor; an interesting academic group from the Tower mint for the third bust issues of the Great Recoinage (5).
