William III (1694-1702), Great Recoinage, Exeter, Shillings (4), 1696 E, first laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, E below, rev. crowned shields cruciform, five strings to harp, nine billets, edge obliquely milled, 5.77g, 6h; another, 5.63g, 7h (Bull 1180; ESC 1084); also, 1697 E, similar, rev. six strings to harp, eight billets, 5.57g, 6h (Bull 1182; ESC 1098; Spink 3500), harshly cleaned, scuffed in first quarter, and a flaw by tie, struck details fair to almost fine; lastly, 1697 E, third bust, rev. five strings to harp, nine [?] billets, edge obliquely milled, 6.10g, 6h (Bull 1183; ESC 1105; Spink 3508), handsome dark tone, a hint of adjustment by date, strictly fine, but rather wholesome, scarce (4).
