'untidy legend', stop between BR FRA, four strings, 2.80g, 7h (Bull 1226 [R5]; ESC 1564), fields smoothed in antiquity with residual flawing, largely retoned, struck details good, rare; lastly, reading GVLIEMVS [sic] in error, rev. four strings, seven billets, 2.98g, 7h (Bull 1229 [R4]; ESC 1565; Spink 3537), off-struck as the Slaney parallel specimen, this with granular and flawed surfaces, graffiti across bust, otherwise struck details fair, the die-sinker's error clear, very rare; a remarkable quartet of the fabled second bust issues of William III including the probable 1696 Pattern issue (4).
