William III (1694-1702), Great Recoinage, Chester, Sixpences (11), 1696 (2), first laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev. oversized As, large crowned shields cruciform, early harp, three strings to harp, eight billets, edge obliquely milled, 3.03g, 6h (Bull 1268; ESC 1536; Spink 3522), lightly cleaned with some adjustment weakness, a bolder fine, scarce; another, similar, rev. small crowns, later harp with six strings, seven [?] billets, 2.77g, 6h (Jackson-Kent K.22 this coin; Bull 1269 [R4]; ESC 1548A [R2]; Spink 3533), slightly buckled flan, rubbed, good to fair, but very rare and with an impeccable provenance; also, 1697 (9), first bust, rev. large crowns, late harp with six strings, seven billets, 3.12g, 6h (Jackson-Kent K.32; Bull 1270 [R4]; ESC 1556; Spink 3529), a hint of adjustment to French shield, otherwise nicely cabinet toned, very fine, very rare, an excellent cabinet specimen; also, small crowns (5), small lettering (4), five strings, seven billets, 3.00g, 6h, darkly toned and rubbed, fair; five strings, six billets, 2.71g, 6h, some adjustment and gouges in obverse field, otherwise toned, about fine; another, five strings, 2.69g, 6h, rubbed and cleaned, mediocre to good; five [?] strings, 2.68g, 6h (Bull 1271; ESC 1557), rubbed and scuffed, poor; another, rev. large lettering, four strings, six billets, 2.96g, 6h (Bull 1271/1276; ESC 1557; Spink 3533), rubbed, fair to almost fine; also, third bust (3), large crowns, late harp with four strings, six billets, 2.87g, 6h (Bull 1275 [R3]; ESC 1569; Spink 3540), flecked and lightly cleaned, otherwise fair or marginally better, very rare; lastly, small crowns, large lettering both sides (2), six strings, seven billets, 2.96g, 6h, rubbed but darkly toned, a handsome example, fine / good fine, very rare; another, six strings, seven billets, 2.88g, 6h (Bull 1570 [R3]; ESC 1570; Spink 3543), creased as a love token, otherwise naturally toned, struck details about very fine, very rare; an outstanding group for Chester with multiple rarities of this short lived Provincial coinage, most in presentable or better grades (11).
