Israel - 500 Mils 1948 - Anglo Paletine - PMG 58 EPQ - No Prefix
When the State of Israel was established, it was decided for several reasons not to print a large quantity of banknotes, and therefore, the initial printing, which took place on April 26, 1948, at its current value, included 1,500,000 banknotes. 1,000,000 banknotes without prefix and 500,000 with prefix A. The banknote offered for sale is from the first print of the State of Israel.
The Anglo Palestine Banknote Series is the first official series of the State of Israel.
The banknotes were issued by the Bank of Anglo-Palestine on paper stamped with
colored dots as a means of preventing counterfeiting. Due to the short time left until
the declaration of the state, the banknotes were printed on engravings with decorations
that were generally prepared for printing Chinese banknotes.
Since the banknotes were printed before the establishment of the state, the names of the state and its currency
were not yet known, and therefore the name of the State of Israel does not appear on the banknotes at all.
The English Pound was chosen as the currency type.
