Head of Helios facing; bird at cheek to left / Rose with buds to left and right; Γ-O/(AP monogram)-Є in two lines, flanking stem. Ashton, Mylasa 309 (A103/P243); Akarca p. 90, 21.1 = SNG Copenhagen 924 (same dies); HN Online 212. Patches of find patina, off center and small mark on obverse. VF.

From the Raintree Collection.

This coin is from the last issue of the pseudo-Rhodian drachms at Mylasa. In this phase of the coinage, Ashton recognized that the two line inscription on the reverse encompassed the abbreviated name of the magistrate responsible for the coinage, and the abbreviated month of the Macedonian calendar in which the issue was struck. Thus, this particular issue was stuck by Are– during the month of Gorpiaios. While the relative chronology of the issues in this pseudo-Rhodian series is fairly certain, the absolute chronology remains elusive (see Ashton & Reger in Agoranomia for a recent revisit of the evidence around this coinage).
