Obv: TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP P P Head laureate r. Rx: SPES - AVGVSTA around, . S C . in exergue, Spes advancing l., holding flower and raising skirt. Rare with obverse legend ending P P at this mint; von Kaenel records only four such specimens. The Tarraco mint was apparently closed soon after Claudius accepted the title Father of his Country early in 42.This coin bears the best portrait of Claudius we have ever handled on a sestertius. While the portraits of Claudius on bronze coins are often crude, his image on this sestertius is extremely elegant and has the look of a living man . Mint State
