Gordian III. ; Gordian III; 238-244 AD, AE 39.5x40.5, 31.65g. Aulock, Phrygien-269-272 (4 spec., including ours, all from the same die pair). Obv: M ANT ΓOPΔIANOC AVΓO Bust radiate, draped, cuirassed r., seen from front. Rx: EΠI ATTIKO - V APX TO B ΔO - PVΛA around, EΩN in exergue, Two men, possibly the city founders Dorvlaos and Akamas, standing holding spears and sacrificing at an altar between them, while an eagle flies above.
