Arsonval, physicist and physician, worked under Claude Bernard and C E Brown-Séquard (whom he succeeded in 1897 at the Collège de France) and was professor at the Sorbonne from 1894 to 1932. He gave his name to the D\'Arsonval galvanometer, and as a pioneer in electrotherapy, he studied the medical application of high-frequency currents. He was also involved in the industrial application of electricity.The obverse of the medal is completely traditional, the reverse is a powerful Art Deco image and one of Damann's most memorable works.
