William III (1694-1702), 'High Hair' Shilling, 1701, fifth laureate, cuirassed and draped bust right, rev. four crowned shields cruciform, five strings to harp, six billets, obliquely milled edge, 6.01g, 6h (Pywell-Phillips 184; Bull 1155; ESC 1124; Spink 3516), a notably well-balanced and handsomely cabinet toned example, a softer strike to portrait high points, otherwise almost extremely fine, rare.
Provenance
Reportedly ex Lord Hamilton, but evidently not the example illustated in the Spink 1979 Sale (lot 266)
, ,
Bull 1155 gives five strings to harp. One seems to be split, so depending on how you count them there could be five or six.
Estimate: £400 - £500
