George I (1714-1727), 'Roses and Plumes' Shilling, 1720 over 18, first laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev. four crowned shields cruciform, roses and plumes in angles, seven strings to harp, obliquely milled edge, 5.97g, 5h (Bull 1570 [R4]; ESC 1167A; Spink 3645), struck slightly off-centre [a recurring problem at this time], otherwise lightly toned, a bolder fine, the overdate excessively rare.

This is a very rare overdate and the first to appear on Coinarchives since 2007! (cf. Baldwin 52, 25 September 2007, lot 473 - £620). The numbers have been carefully positioned, but the evidence is still clear. As well as the trace of the 8 inside the O, the need for the 2 to be placed directly over the 1 forces it into the crown.
Estimate: £240 - £300
