George II (1727-1760), 'Roses and Plumes' Shilling, 1737, young laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left, rev. four crowned shields cruciform, roses and plumes in angles, eight strings to harp, obliquely milled edge, 5.98g, 6h (Pywell-Phillips 337; Bull 1711; ESC 1200; Spink 3700), possibly lightly wiped and retoned accounting for the interspersed unnatural colouration and cabinet 'gunmetalling', otherwise lustrous, a really bold very fine.
Again the strings of the harp are split giving nine at the body and ten at the neck. Here we have counted the middle of the strings. Spink 3700 also notes that a 3 over 5 exists. Here the 3 is heavily repunched, but it could be a 3 over 3, not a 3 over 5. Bull does not list a 3 over 5.
Estimate: £200 - £260
