George II (1727-1760), 'Roses' Shilling, 1739, young laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left, rev. four crowned shields cruciform, roses in angles, normal Garter star, eight strings to harp, obliquely milled edge, 6.00g, 6h (Pywell-Phillips 338; Bull 1713; ESC 1201; Spink 3701), lightly flecked with a light grey tone and fiery-lustrous flare in recesses, a pleasing very fine.
