James II (1685-1688), Shilling, 1687 over 6, laureate and draped bust left, rev. G over A in MAG, four crowned shields cruciform, five strings to harp, obliquely milled edge, 6.05g, 6h (Bull 770; ESC 1072 and 1072A; S.3410), the overdate and the G over A very clear, lightly toned, a pleasing very fine, rare.
ESC gives both errors, but separately, 1072 the overdate and 1072A the G over A. Bull 770 has both. Bull also gives B over V in IACOBVS, but this is not clear here, and perhaps the shape of the B, so often with a cuious protrusion at the top right side and sometimes described a 'broken B', is misleading.
Estimate: £300 - £400
