GREAT MONGOLS: Malik of Kurzuwan, June-July 1221, AE jital (2.93g), Kurzuwan, AH618, A-3737 (1971), Fine, ex James Farr Collection. Formerly considered an issue of Chingiz Khan, the type is now regarded as having been struck by the local authorities of Kurzuwan while under siege by the Mongols. It is thus one of very few identifiable "siege coins" of the Islamic world.
