Delhi Sultanate, Suri Dynasty, Ibrahim Shah (AH 962 /1554-1555 AD), Dar ul Darb Muqam Shahr Banaras Mint, Silver Rupee, AH 962, Obv: Arabic legend "Abu'l Muzaffar Sayyid Sultan Ibrahim Ghazi" & star mintmark within a square, the four Caliph's names in the margins, Rev: Arabic legend "khuld allahu mulkahu wa sultanahu wa a'ala amarahu wa sultanahu" within a square, mint name with the epithet "Dar ul Darb Muqam Shahr Banaras" in the margin, 11.45g, 27.47mm, (G&G # D1161), single test mark, otherwise about extremely fine, Exceptionally Rare.

Note: Banaras was a rare mint for the Delhi Sultan rulers. This coin is of a high grade and it is of a choice quality that has not appeared in any auction in the past. An important coin that is missing from various collections.

The Suri regime was tarnished by instability and insurrection in the final years of its reign. The throne of Muhammad Adil was weak. Ibrahim and Ahmad, his cousins, were both enthroned in different sections of the Suri domains, the latter under the name Sikandar Shah. Both rebel kings had coins minted in silver and copper in their names, but Ibrahim Shah Suri's coinage is far rarer than Sikander Shah's.
