Gupta Dynasty, Chandragupta II (Vikramaditya) (375-415 CE), Gold Dinar, "Archer-Goddess on throne" type, Obv: the king standing facing left, nimbate, wearing a short tunic, diadem on his head, holding a longbow in his left hand and an arrow in his right, a Garuda standard on the left field, the Brahmi legend "Chandra" below the king's arm, the Brahmi legend "Devasrimaharajadhiraja(dhirajasri-Cha)ndraguptah" around the field, Rev: the goddess Lakshmi, nimbate, seated frontally on a throne, wearing ornaments and a thin upper-body garment (Uttariya) depicted with delicate folds, resting her feet on a wide lotus-shaped pedestal, she holds a lotus in one hand and makes a gesture of benevolence (Varadamudra) with the other hand, a tamgha in the top-left field, the Brahmi legend "Sri Vikramah" in the right field, a dotted border around the field, 7.56g, 20.68mm, (Altekar. Bayana Hoard # Pl. VIII-3/TGE, S. Kumar # Class. I-D.2), almost complete details visible, about extremely fine, Extremely Rare.

Note: The reverse of this coin where the goddess is seen wearing Uttariya is from the same dies that were perhaps used for the Couch type coin. As per Hinduism and Vedic text, Uttariya is generally worn during religious ceremonies. We haven't offered this in past auctions.
