William III (1694-1702), Great Recoinage, Sixpence, 1697, third laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, inverted A for V in GVLIELMVS, rev crowned shields cruciform, large crowns, late harp with four strings, six billets, edge obliquely milled, 2.95g, 6h (Bull 1236 [R4]; ESC 1566B; Spink 3538), good very fine, very rare.
Both Bull and ESC rate this variety as R4, and twenty years ago the Standard Catalogue priced it five times higher than the normal date in fine and four times higher in very fine. Currently the Standard Catalogue does not give it a significently different price.
Estimate: £80 - £100
