TRAVANCORE: Anonymous, AV fanam, ND (1881), KM-30, Viraraya type, a wonderful lustrous example! PCGS graded MS64. These gold fanam coins were struck in Ceylon and popularly known as the Viraraya Fanams. Originally believed to be issued by the Kingdom of Travancore, they are now known to have been issued by rulers of Sri Lanka, and may have found their way to the Indian side via trade. The obverse of the coin features a partial stylized lion while the reverse features a stylized boar.
