ETHIOPIA: Menelik II, 1889-1913, AR birr, EE1889 (1897), KM-X2, Gill-S41, bust of King Menelik II left // stylized Lion of Judah, holding cross with banderole in its right front paw, with the denomination below, PCGS graded Proof 65, ex Stacks 12 March 1970, Lot 350. This medal was struck at the John Pinches mint in England in the 1950s for Geoffrey Hearn, who produced a number of such fantasy coins. The John Pinches mint was opened about 1840, became a major producer of medals and related items until it was bought by the Franklin Mint in 1969.
